Outreach and Mission

“Through God, all things are possible.”

The mission outreach of our church tries to address many needs of our community, locally and globally. Every member of the congregation is encouraged to become actively involved in one or more of these mission outreach programs.

The congregation of FPUPC actively supports the following programs and organizations with their time, talents, and financial resources.  Click on the name of the program or organization to learn more about how we support it.

 Appalachia Service Project (ASP)

A work group consisting of 40 to 50 volunteers travels to Appalachia for one week each summer to repair and rebuild homes in impoverished areas of this part of the country.

Backpacks, Supplies, and More!

Formerly known as “Christmas in August”, this FPUPC-sponsored program provides free backpacks filled with school supplies to children who live in the City of Poughkeepsie.

Church World Service CROP Walk

Volunteers from the congregation walk up to 10 meters at the annual CROP Walk in October of each year to raise funds to support the CWS CROP program.

Dutchess Outreach Lunch Box

FPUPC provides and volunteers help prepare and then serve a complete Sunday dinner twice each year at Dutchess Outreach’s “Lunch Box” soup kitchen that serves the people of Poughkeepsie.

Dutchess Outreach Food Pantry

Food and other essential items are collected at Sunday morning worship services every week, and then delivered to the Dutchess Outreach Food Pantry for distribution to those in need.

Grace Smith House

Members of the FPUPC community purchase and deliver Christmas Gifts to residents Brookhaven Apartments, which provides shelter for victims of domestic violence.

Habitat for Humanity Faith Build

Volunteers from FPUPC recently participated in Habitat’s recent “Faith Build” program to construct a new home for a Poughkeepsie family.

Heifer Project International

A free-will offering for Heifer International is taken at annual Blessing of the Animals service that occurs in the fall of each year.

Hudson River Housing Hillcrest House

The Senior High Youth Fellowship of the church prepares dinner for and visits with residents of Hudson River Housing’s Hillcrest House residence for the formerly homeless one evening each month.

A Single Kindness (ASK)

We celebrate the spirit of Easter by conducting a major fund-raising appeal to support a specific mission project.

Catharine Street Community Center

Our congregation sponsors a full table at the Catharine Street Community Center’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. fund-raising breakfast.

Church World Service Blankets+ Appeal

This annual appeal helps CWS provide needed warmth by giving blankets to refugees and disaster victims who need them.
